The purpose of the pediatric asthma fast track is to provide immediate, personalized, care to asthmatic pediatric patients. This program serves patients 1 through 17 years who are known asthmatics. In the event of an episode, the patient calls their pediatrician and goes to the hospital. When arriving at the hospital, the patient reports immediately to the Pediatric Unit, bypassing the Admitting and Emergency Departments. The patient will receive immediate treatment upon arrival and stay a maximum of four hours at which time the patient will either be discharged home or be admitted for further treatment.
