Internal Medicine

"The focus of the Internal Medicine Residency Program of Fairview Hospital is to prepare residents for careers in primary-care internal medicine. Though many of our residents are accepted each year into fellowships or as hospitalists, our program is ideally suited for those who desire to practice as generalists."

K.V. Gopalakrishna, M.D.
Chair, Department of Medicine
Program Director, Internal Medicine Residency Program

Our Internal Medicine Residency Program is committed to excellence in medical education and instills confidence in the future internist to provide excellent care in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. We strive to expand medical knowledge with the development of clinical skills and the fundamentals of medical research.

There are 30 categorical residents and two preliminary residents in the program that are supervised by full-time, part-time and volunteer faculty members. The majority of faculty admits most of their patients to Fairview Hospital as their offices are close to the campus.

Fairview's 499-bed hospital has a significant number of admissions to the teaching medical service. Medical residents follow the patients admitted to medical floors, critical care and coronary care units.
