Health Care Team Members

Many individuals are involved in providing patient care.  Some of those you meet may include:

Attending Physicians
The physician who admits you is responsible for directing your care while you are a patient in the hospital.  Your physician should be sonsulted for questions about your illness and for any special concerns.

Residents
A graduate physician completing advanced medical training who works under the supervision of the attending physician.

Clinical Manager
A registered nurse, responsible for the overall management of the nursing unit.

Clinical Nurse Specialist/Care Coordinators
Registered nurses that provide clinical leadership and expertise through specialized direct patient care, consultation and patient education.

Nursing Professionals
Registered nurses (RNs) coordinate, manage and provide patient care.  Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) provide direct care and work under the direction of the registered nurse.  Nurses are dressed in white uniforms outside the specialty units.

Patient Care Assistants/Nurse Technicians
Patient care assistants (PCAs) provide basic patient care under the direction of the registered nurse.  PCAs are dressed in navy blue scrubs.

Unit Secretaries
Working in the main reception area on each floor and in the nursing stations, Unit Secretaries are the central resource for informatino and perform clerical functions for the nursing unit.  Secretaries are dressed in navy blue career apparel.

Registered Dieticians
All ParkView floors have a dietician, licensed and trained to complete a thorough assessment of your nutritional needs while in the hospital and after your discharge, if necessary.

Cardiac Rehab Team
For patients recovering from open-heart surgery or a heart attack, members of the rehab team will provide education in cardiac care, risk factors, nutrition and exercise.

Therapists and Technicians
Depending on your health care needs, you may be visited by staff trained in providing specialized services in areas including the laboratory, respiratory therapy, physical and occupational therapy and radiology.  In some cases, patients are taken to the department if the services cannot be provided in your room.

Students
Inherent in our mission is the strong support of the education of future healthcare professionals.  Therefore, medical and nursing students and other healthcare workers in training may assist with your care under the strict supervision of our professional staff.

Environmental Services Staff
Environmental services provides daily cleaning of patient care areas.  They are dressed in green scrubs.

Volunteers
Volunteers contribute many hours of service to our patients and financial support to the hospital.  They can be identified by the uniforms and identification badges.
